About

Valter Tucci completed his degree in Psychobiology at the University of Padua in 2000, with a thesis focusing on the impact of sleep deprivation on cardiovascular changes. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in neurophysiopathology of sleep disorders from the University of Genoa in 2004, under the guidance of Prof. Franco Ferrillo. During his doctoral studies, he conducted research at MIT and BU in Boston, exploring behavioral and molecular aspects of sleep across different in vivo models.

In 2004, Valter transitioned to the MRC Mammalian Genetics Unit at Harwell (Oxford), where he concentrated on genetic screening of clock genes. Presently, he holds a tenured senior team-leader position at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa. Valter's commitment to both scientific research and effective policy communication has been recognised over the years, including a scientific merit medal by the Italian President in 2008. He has consistently contributed with articles in leading national newspapers, sharing insights on various science-related subjects.

In 2023, Valter was honored with the election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in the UK. With a background in behavioral, neurophysiological, and genetic research, he serves as a Principal Investigator, overseeing studies in diverse research domains such as neurobiology, molecular genetics, pharmacology, machine learning, and bioinformatics.
