Sleep is a burden and a resource that evolution has given to virtually all species. The need for sleep costs our species 1/3 of our time on Earth, a period in which we don’t create, don’t socialize, don’t reproduce. This is even larger for newborns that spend up to 2/3 of their time sleeping. A good night’s sleep is fundamental to exploit efficiently all daily functions and to keep and develop us healthy. Nevertheless, one third of human population reports sleep problems that can cause consequences both physically and mentally. In addition, human errors and loss of productivity due to sleep problems can cost up to 3% of the gross domestic products in many countries.
